Focus and Scope
The Taxonomic Outline of the Bacteria and Archaea is specifically limited to a single purpose, mapping the validly published named species into a consistently maintained baseline taxonomic model that can serve as a foundation for phylogenetic, phylogenomic, and genomic studies.

Peer Review Process
Each issue of the Outline undergoes a careful review by selected members of the International Commission on the Systematics of Prokaryotes and the Judicial Commission on Prokaryotic Nomenclature prior to release.
Publication Frequency
Publication of the Outline will occur on a quarterly basis during 2007.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
Archiving
This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...
